Gamma World

I like to get a sense of a world and an idea of possible directions to take a character before jumping into a new rpg. So - what's Gamma World like? What sort of things might we end up doing once we're in game?

Also, to those others who are going to be in the party, should we try to coordinate our characters backstories/personalities/skillsets for maximum teamwork potential?

All in all, I'm really excited for this! I think it's gonna be a ton of fun.

I'm really excited for this. I've wanted to try Gamma World since forever... even though I have no experience with tabletops (could never find anyone else).

I'm assuming Fetal is GMing this? I'd like to know the basic premise of the campaign before I try coming up with a character.

Same here, though I've a bit of experience with tabletops.

All I know so far is the idea of a swarm/hivemind character intrigues me... but I don't want to put effort into any indepth creation before I know what sort of characters would fit in with the world, and with what everyone else wants to do.

I'm pretty sure that a hivemind swarm would work in any Gamma World campaign.

The fourth person is, at this time, twerkyvulture.
And any characters are fine.
I'm more keen to build a world around your characters then shoe horn them into a pre-built world. But in the end it will probably be a combination of both.

So, uh... I have no idea what to do next with my character sheet.

I have the base stats set and decided on a mutant, fast hero, scavenger, and I'm not sure what to do next.

If I understand it correctly, the next step is picking your specific mutations. You get 3 minor positive, 1 major positive, and one negative.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, though. Nobody got their character made, and some people didn't even start. We'll figure it all out in the next session.

Ah, okay. I thought we had to figure out all the modifiers and everything too.

Didn't Fetal say something about homebrew mutations? Can we still pick from the "canon" mutations?

Page 22 in the player's handbook has a list of things to do.
Specifically your next step is leveling your character up to the third level, then determining name, age, height weight, etc, adding FX like mutations, and then finally buying stuff with your wealth score.
